Why the Alpha Derby Weekend is Important for Georgia

The Alpha Derby Weekend is a Kentucky Derby-themed event, in which the attendees participate in various events throughout the weekend. This year’s event will be on the first weekend of May (April 30-May 3, 2026).

The weekend lineup includes a golf tournament on the morning of May 1, 2026 (Chapel Hills Golf Course in Douglasville, GA). Later that evening, there will be health fairs along with networking events. For the kickoff event on May 1, 2026, Platinum R/B recording artist Jon B is the featured artist via the newly announced Cutwater Concert Series (Guardian Works in Atlanta, GA).

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, the elegance and pageantry of the watch event at Guardian Works (Saturday) is a must-attend given the viewing of the race, the hat contest, and other special guests (as Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has attended the past 2 years of the event) as 1/3 of the event patrons travel from outside the State of Georgia.

Lastly, there is The Sunday Brunch (May 3, 2026, at the Grand Hyatt-Buckhead), which highlights the charitable work that the organization does and the people it benefits. Proceeds support the Alphas of Atlanta grant program, which provides engagement and outreach opportunities for Metro-Atlanta nonprofits, truly expanding the adage of hosting a “party with a purpose”.

I spoke with the media coordinator of The Alphas of Atlanta, Inc., Andrew Snorton, who discussed the details of the upcoming event.
