Interview with Brooklyn Rapper VNova

BTN: OK. Going at it that long, I wanted to know what sacrifices have you made. And also what are your future goals?

VN: The sacrifices I have made are pretty much trying to live a regular life. I had jobs, mostly driving jobs; but with this music, it is hard to maintain a regular 9 to 5. You won’t give 100 percent to this music all the time, so it is hard to commit to anything else. So some of the sacrifices I have made are not getting my CDLs and getting my own truck. I’m not mad because I believe this music will pay off in the long run.

My mind moves so much and I want to do a lot of things to change the world. I just want to put myself in a position to change certain things. Because nobody else is doing it, nobody else cares. I want to put myself in a position to help people, not just with music but everything. So that’s the main goal, maybe a label, which I’m kind of working on at the moment.

BTN: Where does your name come from?

VN: From the two towns Brownsville and East New York. They like two towns that are right next to each other, so I combined the two towns for my name. Like ‘Vill and Over to the next town; (Laughs) that’s how I came up with VNova, it sounds like the college Villanova but it is paying homage to the “Ville and over to East New York.
