Victor “Vic” Stone was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez and made his debut in “DC Comics Presents” No. 26 (Oct. 1980). He is the son of Silas and Elinore Stone, a pair of scientists who use Victor as a test subject for their intelligence enhancement experiments at S.T.A.R. Labs (a site frequented by Professor Emil Hamilton, played by Richard Schiff in “Man of Steel”).
A failed experiment in dimensional travel results in the death of Elinore and leaves Victor with much of his body mutilated, courtesy of a massive gelatinous monster that appeared through an experimental portal. Silas is able to save his son’s life by fitting him with prosthetics and implants that give him superhuman abilities whilst constantly supplying life support — turning him into Cyborg, a superhero who struggles to maintain his humanity as half-man, half-machine.
Cyborg is best known as a member of the Teen Titans (and has been featured on several TV cartoon incarnations of the team, including the Cartoon Network’s current “Teen Titans Go!”), but he was reinvented as a founding member of the Justice League as part of DC’s 2011 continuity reboot, “The New 52.”
“Batman vs. Superman,” which also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, will hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
