The city of Chicago put a stamp on a building known for being the center place for House Music. The Warehouse which is located at 206 S. Jefferson St was initially a member-only venue for gay Black Men. Then from 1977 to the mid-80s, it was transformed into a nightclub and musical lab for famed DJ and producer Frankie Knuckles.

Now the building has been turned into a historical landmark by the city of Chicago. The ordinance solidifies the building and location as being one of the places where House Music was started. New Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson spoke on the motion stating, “Chicago’s landmarks illustrate the story of our history and culture, (and) I’m proud that the City Council approved landmark designation for The Warehouse, a space regarded as the birthplace of house music and a safe haven for Chicago’s LGBTQ+ communities.”
