Why Mathematics didn’t think the Wu-Tang Logo would become this Popular

We can start with an honorary member like Capadonna, or guest stars like Killah Priest or Shyheim tha Rugged Child. Then there are spin-off groups like Killa Army or Sunz of Man. One of the unsung heroes that some people may know about is Mathematics. The producer, DJ, and artist has contributed to the Clan since the beginning.

He not only produced songs on “The Pillage” by Capadonna, and “Supreme Clientele” by Ghostface Killah, but he also produced “The Saga Continues” the last album Wu-Tang did as a group. Despite his musical contribution, his creation of one of the most iconic logos in music history might be the most important thing he has done for the group.

The “W” that represents Wu-Tang Clan has superseded music and entertainment and has been firmly cemented into pop culture. That W has become universal, and undoubtedly the music has contributed to that. Yet, you can’t deny that the logo is not only a representation of the group, but a clan, a lifestyle, and a movement.

I caught up with Mathematics in Atlanta after his gig as the DJ for Method Man and Redman. We talked about the logo and his opinion on the current Hip Hop culture versus the culture when he started. Check out the interview below.
